About Earthworks

Earthworks Landscape Construction, LLC was established in 2019 and is locally owned and operated. We specialize in new construction landscape installation, landscape enhancement projects, landscape and drainage design, and maintenance. We take a turnkey approach to ensure the landscape plans we design in-house or receive are built in the manner for which they were intended. We work closely with builders and clients to ensure the dream becomes the reality. We’re proud to collaborate with accomplished and esteemed builders in our area, all of which we have developed strong relationships with over the years. These same builders and their clients are the lifeblood of this company.

The owner of Earthworks is Bryan Barrs. Bryan has over 20 years of landscape experience and has been working in the landscape construction sector for the last 12 years. Six years of Bryan’s experience is in turf management working on a golf course as a Spray/Chem Tech and an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. 

Earthworks employs a team of dedicated, hardworking, and detail-oriented individuals to see the project out from start to finish. We manage four independent teams of three - four laborers. All teams have their own transportation and equipment. Cesar, Gabe, and Angel are all vital Members of our team and we have had the pleasure of working together for over ten years. Our crew leaders and laborers understand our mission, values, and processes, and they trust and respect our relationship. 

Our Management team consists of a dedicated group driving strategic vision and operational excellence to our organization. Our Project Managers are committed to providing assistance at the highest level of operations, ensuring seamless and exceptional support. Their role will be to uniquely work alongside the owner/operator and with select builders as their primary contract.

Meet The Team



Shannon Boyles, Vice President

Shannon is a pivotal Team Member, with over 16 years of experience in the industry. His experience and expertise in the industry provides Earthworks with a solid 1-2 punch. He has worked with numerous builders and homeowners, helping design and install many landscapes throughout Bluffton and Hilton Head Island area. He enjoys forming relationships with his clients and bringing their visions to life with precision, creativity, and experience. Shannon is a native of the Lowcountry and enjoys all things the area has to offer. When not working on landscape projects, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Sara, and their three children.


Rich Ellington, Operations Manager

Rich was born and raised in St. Louis, MO and moved to Bluffton in Fall of 2021. Rich has a passion for sports, such as St. Louis Cardinals baseball and St. Louis Blues Hockey. Rich has been in the landscaping industry since 1997. His family owned a landscaping company and retail nursery. Rich is married with one stepdaughter.


Clay Hartwell, Director of Landscape Services

Clay brings a wealth of experience and passion for excellence to our company. Clay is a South Carolina native, where he enjoys life with his wife and two children. Clay has spent the last 10 years working at high end exclusive top 100 golf communities. Clay is an avid golfer, an outdoorsman, and enjoys boating. With his family, Clay is a member of the Lowcountry Community Church.

His favorite aspect of landscaping is exceeding customers’ expectations to obtain organic growth. 


Frankie Catterson, Project Manager

Frankie Catterson is a native - born and raised in Beaufort County, with many ties in the community. Frankie has over three years of experience in the landscape construction industry. He enjoys creating beautiful new yards from raw earth. He uses a hands-on approach with both the clients and the contractors. When not at work, Frankie enjoys spending his time out on the water with his wife Emily and dog. 


Noah Powell, Project Manager

Noah moved to the Lowcountry in June of 2021 from his home state of Indiana. He graduated with a Business Management degree from Ball State University, where is also played college baseball. Noah worked in the corporate world since his arrival into the Lowcountry and decided that wasn’t his passion. He was always drawn to outside and was looking for a role where his love for outdoors and landscaping would intersect. He enjoys working in the field as a team and making our clients vision a reality.


Trip Sloan, Project Manager

With 25 years of extensive experience in the landscape industry, Trip brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team. As a Project Manager, Trip excels in overseeing all aspects of residential and commercial landscape projects, ensuring every detail meets our high standards of quality and craftsmanship. Throughout his career, Trip has successfully managed a wide range of projects, from intimate garden designs to large-scale estate landscapes. Known for his exceptional leadership skills and attention to detail. When not working on landscape projects, he enjoys boating with his fiancé and two dogs. Trip is also a USCG certified boat captain and sits on the Board of Directors for the Bluffton Marine Rescue Squadron 1B. 


Leah Bell, In-house Landscape Architect

Leah recently joined the Earthworks family as our Landscape Architect. After graduating from the University of Georgia in 2007, she has focused on residential design and gained invaluable experience in creating Lowcountry landscapes unique to the people who live in them. Leah is inspired by the natural beauty that surrounds us and enjoys her spare time playing outside with her husband and two daughters.


Elizabeth Turner, Sales & Marketing Manager

Elizabeth has over seven years of experience in marketing and landscape review. During that time, Elizabeth developed genuine relationships with builders, architects, and homeowners. Elizabeth moved to the Lowcountry in 2016 but has vacationed in the area for over 30 years. She enjoys the beach, University of Kentucky Football and Basketball, and family time.


Taylor McCurry, Office Manager

 

Taylor is a recent graduate from Excelsior University who adores spending time outdoors with her furry companion, Koda. Her interests include scalloping, quality time with family, indulging in cuddles with her puppy Koda, and mastering the art of couponing.


Dan Mielo, Fleet and Logistics Manager


Dan is originally from Pennsylvania and moved to the Lowcountry in 2012. Dan is retired from the Fire Service in July 2024. Dan enjoys learning the history of bands and listening to music. His favorite aspect of landscaping is seeing the results of creating an outside living space.
